What recoating can address
A dull appearance and light finish wear may justify a recoat assessment. The existing finish must accept the new coating. Wax, oils, polish buildup, contaminants, and incompatible finishes can affect adhesion and may require additional preparation or a different approach.
What a recoat will not change
Recoating does not remove deep scratches, replace damaged boards, or reliably erase dark stains. It also does not strip the existing stain color. Changing the wood’s color generally calls for a full refinishing assessment instead.
