A local published reference
Scandia Hardwood Floors publishes a 2026 Eugene-area refinishing guide listing $3–$8 per square foot. At that range, 400 square feet calculates to $1,200–$3,200 and 1,000 square feet to $3,000–$8,000. This is one contractor’s published range, not a verified average, our quote, or a guaranteed installed price.
What can move the total
Minimum job charges, damaged-board replacement, stain changes, detailed edges, stair treads, finish systems, and furniture handling can change the price. Ask whether trim work, disposal, taxes where applicable, and extra coats are included. Recoating and new installation need separate pricing.
Compare like with like
Give each contractor the same room list and measurements. Ask for product names, preparation steps, repair allowances, and a written return-to-use schedule. A low number is hard to assess when the underlying scope is different.
